20th Armored Division
The Plan for Japan

The above map was the Army's invasion plan for Japan.  The 20th Armored Division was slated for Operation 'Coronet' in the Honshu plain with the Eighth Army (Due to poor map quality, this information re-touched for clarity.)


Excerpts from the Staff Study of operation "Coronet" dated August 15, 1945, are as follows:

1. DIRECTIVE   "……to occupy the TOKYO-YOKOHAMA  and KANTO PLAINS areas and effect the unconditional surrender of JAPAN.
2. ASSUMPTIONS

  1. Hostile
  1. That the Japanese will continue the war to the utmost extent of their capabilities and will prepare to defend the home island of HONSHU utilizing all available means.  That the operation will be opposed not only by the available organized military forces of the Empire, but also by a fanatically hostile population.
